Minneapolis, MN – February 7, 2018 – A study recently published in the  Journal of Microbiological Methods by Johnson et al. has demonstrated that the Dri•Bank® system can maintain the integrity of the complex polymicrobial community within equine fecal samples for days at room temperature resembling frozen (-80˚C) counterparts as evidenced by next generation sequencing data. This benefit, particularly for collecting specimens in the field or in resource-limited areas can help eliminate the need to transport or store samples frozen or with chemical preservatives.

Utilizing minimally-invasive techniques such as microbiome analysis of fecal samples to determine the overall health of an animal has grown in recent years. Diseases such as equine laminitis serves as one prominent example, which is a leading cause of lameness among horses. Research previously published in the Journal of Applied Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Morphology has even demonstrated the potential for preserving and storing samples for RNA analysis months later at room temperature with the Dri•Bank.

DriBank Labs develops and manufactures the patented Dri•Bank® system, an easy-to-use room temperature preservation, storage and shipping innovation for biological samples that is economical and eco-friendly. The system does not rely upon electrical power, coatings, chemical fixatives, or adsorption onto matrices to work. The Dri•Bank is an award-winning, disruptive technology that can be used in a variety of settings from routine laboratory work in-house to use in the field.
